Arkansas does not have an ocean, but it has lakes with real sand, clear water, and room to spread out a towel. Some of these beaches are free, some sit inside state parks, and a few are far enough from the busy spots that a weekday visit can feel wonderfully empty. This list covers six of them, from Greers Ferry Lake to Beaver Lake to the Ouachita Mountains.

You will find picnic tables, playgrounds, boat ramps, and hiking trails near several of them, so a beach day can easily turn into a full day out. Here is where to go when you want less noise and more shoreline.

1. Sandy Beach, Heber Springs, AR

Admission costs nothing at this public beach on Greers Ferry Lake, which already puts it ahead of plenty of weekend plans. It sits on W Front St in Heber Springs and is open daily from 7 AM to 9 PM.

The shoreline is sandy, the water is clear, and a sandbar gives little ones a shallow place to play. Trees offer shade for walking and relaxing, and a boating center is nearby.

Facilities include picnic tables, barbecue grills, a public restroom, a public shower, and a volleyball court. There is also a playground, and dogs are allowed.

Parking is on site, with paid lot and paid street parking options. Saturday afternoon and evening are the busiest stretches, while weekdays are usually much quieter. If you want elbow room, aim for Monday through Friday.

2. Old Highway 25 Park Beach, Tumbling Shoals, AR

Camping and swimming share the same address here, which makes an overnight stay easy to plan. The park sits along AR-25 Spur in Tumbling Shoals on Greers Ferry Lake, about an hour from the Little Rock area.

The big swimming area has a sandy beach and sits right next to the boat ramp. Picnic shelters, picnic tables, and barbecue grills are on site, along with a public restroom and a public shower.

Campsites are shaded, and a firepit and marked tent areas are part of the setup. A playground gives kids something to do when they are done with the water.

Hours run 9 AM to 9 PM on weekdays and 9 AM to 10 PM on weekends. Saturday afternoon and evening bring the biggest crowds, and early weekday mornings are among the calmest times. Dogs are allowed, and parking is on site in a paid lot.

3. Beaver Dam Site Park, Eureka Springs, AR

Bring a picnic lunch, because this spot near Eureka Springs is set up for one. Picnic areas, tables, and barbecue grills sit close to a swimming area on the Beaver Lake shoreline.

The beach is sandy and slightly rocky, with the swimming area on one side. The water is clear and blue, and the lake drops off enough to give adults some deeper water to enjoy.

A trail leads to a view of the dam, and the park also has a playground and kid-friendly hiking. It is a day-use area with a seasonal campground, and fishing and boating are part of the mix.

The address is 348 Damsite River Rd, and the park is open daily from 6 AM to 10 PM. Weekend afternoons draw the most visitors, while late weekday hours are far quieter. Dogs are allowed, and a public restroom is available.

The beach has soft sand, a marked swimming area, and rinse stations for afterward. A waterfall and hiking trails add other reasons to stay awhile, and some of the hikes are kid-friendly.

Picnic tables, barbecue grills, a public restroom, slides, swings, and a playground are available. Kayaking, canoeing, and boating are options on the lake, and camping includes spots for RVs. Deer are sometimes spotted along the trails.

The park is open daily from 8 AM to 5 PM, and Saturday afternoon is the busiest time. Weekdays are usually calm, and dogs are allowed.

The visitor center hosts events, and picnic tables, barbecue grills, swings, and restrooms round out the facilities. Several parking areas along the shoreline make it possible to swim without heading to the busiest beach.

Hours are 8 AM to 5 PM daily. Saturday and Sunday afternoons are the busiest, and weekdays are noticeably calmer. Dogs are allowed.
