What began as Black Moon Piercing has grown into a five-location New Jersey operation where body piercing shares the spotlight with fine jewelry, ear styling, and personal design.
Edison, Green Brook, Hillsborough, North Brunswick, and Fairfield each have their own personality, but the idea tying them together is simple: a piercing does not have to be an isolated little dot of metal.
It can become part of a collection that changes with you. With 14k and 18k gold, implant-grade titanium, carefully mapped placements, and projects that can unfold over several appointments, Black Moon is turning the familiar trip to the piercing studio into something much closer to commissioning wearable art.
From Piercing Studio to Luxury Adornment Destination
The name change makes a lot more sense once you see how far the business has moved beyond a single service.
Black Moon began with professional piercing at its core, but Christopher gradually expanded the concept into fine-gold jewelry styling, curated ear projects, jewelry upgrades, custom sourcing, permanent jewelry, and tooth gems.
The last two are currently exclusive to the original Edison location at 174 Lafayette Avenue, where the studio also doubles as an oddities and curiosities museum. That broader menu explains why “Adornments” fits better than “Piercing.”
A client might arrive for a fresh conch piercing, come back after healing to swap in gold, add a chain months later, and eventually work another placement into the design.
The jewelry can get seriously elevated, too. Black Moon’s current online inventory ranges from straightforward titanium pieces to solid-gold designs such as a $55 Puffy Heart, a $265 Beaded Marquis Fan, and statement pieces priced well into four figures.
Piercing service fees start at $60 for one piercing, with each additional piercing adding $20, while jewelry is priced separately. That separation is important because two people getting the same piercing can walk out with completely different looks and budgets.
One may keep things understated with implant-grade titanium; another may build around yellow gold and genuine stones. The result is less like ordering from a fixed piercing menu and more like starting a jewelry collection that happens to use the body as its display case.

A beautiful piece that is the wrong size, material, or shape for a fresh piercing is not suddenly a good choice because it happens to sparkle. Black Moon uses studio-supplied jewelry for initial piercings and does not install outside pieces in fresh work.

Aftercare is similarly specific. Black Moon recommends sterile 0.9 percent sodium chloride saline twice daily and advises against using alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or ointments unless directed.
Healing estimates range from roughly six to eight weeks for lobes to six to 12 months for many cartilage, navel, and nipple piercings. Even the paperwork is treated seriously.
Adults need valid government-issued photo identification, while minors require a parent or legal guardian along with the required identity and relationship documents. None of that is as photogenic as a row of tiny gold stars.
It is, however, what allows the decorative part to remain fun rather than turning into an avoidable healing headache.
Black Moon Adornments Has Its Sights Set Beyond New Jersey
Five studios is already a sizable New Jersey footprint, especially when they stretch from Edison and North Brunswick to Green Brook, Hillsborough, and Fairfield.
Yet Christopher has made it clear that he sees the current network as a stage rather than an endpoint, with plans to continue expanding through New Jersey before eventually moving beyond the state.
For now, the fun part is that the locations are not designed like interchangeable branches. Hillsborough, at 856 Route 206 South inside Rorschach Gallery, leans into pink tones, floral installations, and pop-culture touches.
Green Brook, at 62 US Highway 22, goes in a different direction with neutral tones, natural wood, gentle lighting, and a bohemian, fairy-inspired look. Edison keeps the oddities-and-curiosities angle that reflects another side of Christopher’s interests.
The common thread is the service model: professional piercing paired with curated fine jewelry and an emphasis on long-term styling. Hillsborough is generally open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. six days a week, closing Tuesdays, while Green Brook keeps the same 10-to-8 schedule but closes Mondays.
Appointments are recommended across the business, although walk-ins may be accepted when the schedule allows. Expansion can easily flatten a small brand’s personality if every new shop becomes a copy of the first.
Black Moon’s approach so far has been the opposite: keep the piercing and safety standards consistent, but give each studio room to look like its own little world. That makes the five-location growth feel less like a chain spreading across Jersey and more like one eccentric jewelry idea learning how many forms it can take.
